Philadelphia band, The Bigness, are slated to perform at Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing in Westfield, NY on Sunday, September 3, 2017. They’ve created a special set for the event, described as a live mix tape, which will feature the bands’ founders—Kristin Bigness and John Bueno—playing a range of their favorite covers, as well as originals from their recently released record, Time Traveler.
Attendees can expect the set to ebb and flow, from pared down acoustic renditions, to tunes accompanied by reverb-drenched electric leads, to special piano performances.
Song selections pull from favorites such as Tom Petty, Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac, to indie sweethearts like Pavement, to Philly hometown heroes like Kurt Vile.
“We picked songs that we couldn’t wait to learn,” Kristin commented. “Not just songs that were good, but songs that have influenced us deeply, in one way or another, throughout the years. We’re mixing some incredible, albeit less commonly-known songs, in with the classics, and our hope is that everyone comes away from the day with a few favorite songs that they didn’t know before.”
Wife/husband duo Kristin Bigness and John Bueno met in Philadelphia in 2008, started the band soon thereafter, and were married on Lake Erie in Northeast in 2015. Along with bassist Stephen Maurer and drummer David Kovach, they’ve evolved the Bigness from its folk roots to an indie rock outfit drawing comparisons to Belly, Rilo Kiley, and Fleetwood Mac. The group wrote Time Traveler collaboratively and recorded it at Uniform Recording in Philadelphia with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs). They’ve seen airplay on Philly’s on WXPN, and have appeared onstage at the Presque Isle Sunset Series, Wawa Welcome America!, Musikfest, and club venues around the tristate area.
